The University of Guam received $100,000 in order to initiate a Sea Grant Program from the National Sea Grant Office on August 23, 2004.

The mission of the University of Guam Sea Grant Program is to optimize the sustainable use of the ocean’s resources, to protect the delicate ecosystems that exist and to prevent any hazards and degradation of the natural resources through research, education, and advisory support; to increase our understanding of the balance of sustainability and protection of the environment that exist within the Western Pacific region; and to make significant contributions for the benefit of Guam, the Western Pacific, and the Nation.
