John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship Closed
National Sea Grant College Federal Fellows Program, was established in 1979 to provide a unique educational experience to students who have an interest in marine/ocean/Great Lakes resources and in the national policy decisions affecting those resources. It is open to all students enrolled in a graduate or professional program in a marine- or aquatic-related field at a U.S.–accredited institution of higher learning. The fellowship allows students to share their expertise with policy makers in Washington, D.C., and provides a first-hand look at how science is used in the policy arena and how decisions are made.

    programs. Applications from prospective fellows to the State Sea Grant College
    Programs (SGCP) are due February 29, 2008.

National Marine Fisheries Service - Sea Grant Joint Graduate Fellowship Program in Population Dynamics and Marine Resource Economics Closed
The NMFS - Sea Grant Joint Graduate Fellowship Program in Population Dynamics and Marine Resource Economics is designed to help Sea Grant fulfill its broad educational responsibilities and to strengthen the collaboration between Sea Grant and the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS).The Fisheries Fellowship is available to US citizens who are graduate students enrolled in PhD degree programs in academic institutions in the United States and its territories. Sea Grant and NMFS, with required institutional matching funds, expect to support at least four new Fisheries Fellows in Population Dynamics and Marine Resource Economics in FY 2008.  Fisheries Fellows will work on thesis problems of public interest and relevance to NMFS and have summer internships at participating NMFS Science Centers or Laboratories under the guidance of NMFS mentors.

Aquatic Invasive Species Research and Outreach Program Closed
The goal of this program is to discover and develop information and tools that can lead to the prevention, monitoring and control of aquatic invasive species threatening United States coastal, oceanic and Great Lakes communities, resources and ecosystems.

NOAA Marine Aquaculture Program Closed
The NOAA Aquaculture program seeks proposals for demonstration projects and innovative research for the development of environmentally and economically sustainable marine aquaculture in nearshore, open water, and terrestrial environments. The Great Lakes are considered marine for this competition.

Ballast Water Management Demonstration Program - Closed
This Program supports projects to develop, test, and demonstrate technologies that treat ships' ballast water in order to reduce the threat of introduction of aquatic invasive species to U.S. waters through the discharge of ballast water. Two competitions are running concurrently, one to support technologies and practices projects, and one to support a ballast water research, development, test and evaluation (RDTE) facility.

  • Two Ballast Water Competitions were announced in the Federal Register on December 27, 2007 (72 FR 73325).
  • Deadlines for letters of intent or preproposals have now past. Only those who submitted letters of intent or preproposals by the deadline are eligible to submit full proposals.
  • Full proposals are for the Technologies and Practices competition are due to grants.gov on April 3, 2008.
  • Full proposals are for the RDTE Facility competition are due to grants.gov on April 24, 2008.

Gulf of Mexico Oyster Industry Program None in FY2008
The goal of this program is to encourage multi-disciplinary research and extension projects that contribute directly to the efficiency and profitability of oyster-related businesses and to the safety of oyster products.
